History

Since its inception in 1984, this learn-to-swim institution evolved under the guidance of director and former Olympian, Robert Strauss. Coach Strauss has taught in Miami, Florida since 1973. In the Summer of 2003, Robert Strauss and the Swim Gym Staff through the years, turned "25,000 students-old.” His experience is reflected in a program that elicits the advancement and improvement to the potential of all participants. Swim Gym is a family business, Coach Strauss’ wife Jennie, along with sons Alan and Jonathan help oversee the evolution of community centers and city pools into aquatic safety providers. As of 2005, Swim Gym Aquatics, Inc., operates two swim schools one at the Village of Key Biscayne Community Center and one at The Dave and Mary Alper JCC; in addition Miami’s Premier aquatic sports camp and the Swim Gym Ski School are operated out of the “New” City of Miami Aquatic Sports Park, and Miami Sports International (an event management and sport marketing company) is the latest venture of the second generation of Aquatic Safety, Fitness and Fun providers.

• Swim Gym Aquatics, Inc is a sanctioned member of the United States Swim School Association, United States of America Swimming, United States Water Ski, and the American Red Cross (ARC)
• Coach Robert Strauss is a certified instructor trainer for ARC Lifeguard, Community CPR/First Aid, and Water Safety Instructor certification programs
• Swim Gym currently operates a swim school and swim team (age group and masters) at the Dave and Mary Alper JCC and the Village of Key Biscayne CC
• Year round pool temperature at both locations is between 84°F and 86°F
• A basic safety learn-to-swim package consists of 10 private lessons
• Group classes based on age, are available by the season (a season consists of 10 weeks)
• The Aquatic Sports Camp debuted in 1995, and is located at the City of Miami Aquatic Sports Park on Virginia Key, in 2005 we celebrated our 11th edition
• The Aquatic Sports Camp is designed for children 6-15, the Mini-Camp for children 2-5
• The camp features introduction to competitive swimming, open water swim, snorkeling and monofin, water polo, kayaking, canoeing, wakeboarding, sailing, and fishing, just to name a few.
• The camp mascots are manatees Alee and Jontee and recently Estee was created
• The Swim Gym Ski School, located at the City Of Miami Aquatics Sports Park is available for lessons seven days a week, by appointment, and features world class instruction from father and son former World Champion skiers Russell and Rusty Carter
• Miami Sports International is the newest addition to Swim Gym Aquatics, Inc. It is a sport marketing and event management company, specializing in the promotion and management of aquatic and extreme sporting events. It debuted in the summer of 2005, hosting the Speedo Swim Miami 2005, an open water competition. Check out the latest projects, www.miamisportsinternational.com
