Day at
the Races: Home meets for swimmers of all levels. For
our Swim Team, this is normal workout time. These swimmers
like to set the example; and we encourage them be role models.
For Young Team, this becomes a race important for good feedback
on racing strategies and stroke and turn techniques. Bring
the video camera and capture their improvement. Day at the
Races is especially important to swimmers and parents with
little experience in competitive swimming. Here, children
get up on the block, learn from more advanced counterparts,
are part of the team, and shake out "butterflies in the
stomach." Come with your swimmer to practice the competitive
experience within the club program environment, at home-
and away-meets, and later, at the high school level. Warm-up
starts at 1 p.m. sharp. Meets start promptly at 2 pm to
4 pm.
"A" Swimmers:
For swimmers of all ages who have achieved the "A" time
standards: The ABC meets, Swim-A-Thon, and Day at the Races
are full team activities that parents want to attend. The
following meets only are for registered swimmers, who have
achieved the National Time Standards requirements.
"B - C" Swimmers:
After a few months, and several "Day at the Races" events,
many swimmers travel outside of the Dave and Mary Alper
JCC for competitive events. When you decide to swim three
to four times per week, the following program is the next
step.
Master's:
Master's swimmers are invited to Day at the Races to test their abilities and set the example for the younger swimmers. If you are interested in more serious adult racing United States Masters Swimming (USMS) can tell you everything "you always wanted to know" about competing and training.
Registration is $50.00 for 2005. If you plan to race this
year, you must be registered. This registration includes
SPLASH, a national newsmagazine edited in Colorado Springs
at the USOC, and the Florida Gold Coast bimonthly newsletter.
*USMS Registration is $35.00 for 2005.
Please help THE Swim Gym SWIM TEAM to look our best!
We recommend that all swimmers are in team uniform with
team suit, sweat shirt, sweat pants, "T", and cap. Pick
up the equipment the next time you come in to the Swim Gym
swim shop.
Please mark the following days in your calendar:
Day at the Races: Home meets for swimmers
of all levels, especially important for swimmers with little
racing experience. The Day at the Races is geared for Stroke
School, and Swim Team. Warm up starts at 1pm and swim meet
is from 2pm to 4pm. "A" swimmers normally train every Sunday
2 to 4, this is an opportunity for these swimmers to demonstrate
what they can do and practice group leadership. Stroke School
will only participate in Day at the Races at the JCC pool,
until they are promoted to the Team groups.
